Slowly, but surely, I’ve been working on my new Ebonyr campaign setting supplement called the “City of Heirandos”. So far I’ve started detailing 71 locations around the city and its environs. Here’s the rough draft cover that I concocted using MS Publisher.

I took a 6 to 8 week self-imposed sabbatical over the summer. I wanted to reflect on my past work and what I wanted to accomplish in the future. I soon kept seeing this new retro clone called Swords and Wizardry (S&W) crop up on different forums that I visit. S&W was even nominated for an ENnie award for the best free product. I thought to myself, a retro clone of 0e is getting major recognition from outside the OSR (Old School Renascence) community? So, I went to the S&W website and downloaded the core rules and was pleasantly surprised by what I read.
The one item I found most interesting was the Challenge Level for monsters. Though I’ve never played 3e, I liked the CR (Challenge rating) indicator to be helpful. I see that 4e dropped this. But, I like the way S&W uses this “new” feature to help the game referee with monster selection.
All in all, I really like S&W and hope to support it with a great campaign setting, adventure modules and supplements.

TO MY DEMOCRAT FRIENDS:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2009, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.
TO MY REPUBLICAN FRIENDS:
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Mar-Zud – Sea Dwarves
The standard Sea Dwarf makes his home on ocean coasts,
usually as a shipwright or sailor or fisher of the sea. Light in
complexion, frequently sun burned, they have red, orange, or blond
hair, but when over 200 or so, it all either turns white or they go
bald. Short and stocky, they are more naturally buoyant and plumper
than their leaner, more muscular cousins, making swimming an easy task
for them. Though they are still somewhat muscular under a thicker layer
of fat, their size diminishes their STR since they are not as densely
muscled as their cousins, but they have greater flexibility and balance
too since they are not so muscle bound.
They stand 4 1/2 to nearly 5 feet high, 120 to 160 pounds.
They have fair cheeks and dark eyes. A typical life span is about 250
to 350 years, but some as old as 400 years have been known. They have
all the normal traits as “Dry Dwarves”, or more simply, just Dries.
(ie “We are trading salt stone with my Dry cousin” – this term lends
some confusion, as non aquatic races sometimes mistake this as someone
being sober.) The feet and hands have a small amount of webbing to help
facilitate swimming.

Today I was searching for some great RPG-type music for the website. I plan on making some great videos using Animoto.com. I think that will really enhance the site and utilize web 2.0 that I’ve become fond of.
Tonight I’ve also been working on the Sea Dwarf race. I think they’ll be pretty cool .. or wet?

I know its been a few weeks since my last entry, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been doing any work on the website debut. I’ve finished most of the races, initial maps and I have a few outlines on adventures.

I’ve been working on the Kingdom of Lucidor’s Factbook today. Here’s a piece of my work:
The Kingdom of Lucidor
History – not done
Geography – not done
People
Aristocracy – Power is maintained by a select group of families that own 75% of the land.
Proles – people born on the Aristocracies land and cannot leave unless then are granted rights or a writ by their lord or lady.
Freemen
- Granted limited rights by the Aristrocracy to perform their
occupations such as merchants, traders, and craftsmen. Freemen usually
come from family that are already granted rights or are granted a
“writ” from the King or noble to become a Freemen.
Government
Hereditary Monarchy tied to wealth and power
Kraitan Council – Earls of the land come 4 times a year to review decrees and ordinances.

The past few days I’ve been working on several organizations and the new hex maps. This morning if finished the Blades of Judgment. This secret militant order of the Praxian church was once the greatest order within the church. However their greed and departure from church doctrine had them banned from church functions and their charter was revoked. They still live on and recently have started to thrive again in public as bodyguards for the very clergy that originally banned them.
